Study on Employers¡¯ Disability Cognition

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to research employers¡¯ disability cognition and how it affects employment of the disabled. The experiences influencing employers¡¯ disability cognition were also examined. The outcomes of the study are described in 5 parts: disability cognition before employing disabled persons, upon the process of recruitment, motivation for hiring the disabled, evolution of disability cognition, and employers¡¯ opinions regarding its improvement.
As a result, employers¡¯ disability cognition before hiring the disabled turned out to be strongly negative. Although upon the process of recruitment it exhibited positively than before hiring in terms of feasibility of job performance and productivity of disabled workers. Also, employers¡¯ motivation for hiring people with disabilities represented the fact that mandatory employment and levy systems positively influenced employment of the disabled. With regard to a change in disability cognition, media, personal experiences with the disabled, and employment experience of disabled persons were considered. The result showed that employment experience had the biggest impact on employers¡¯ disability cognition. Furthermore, employers¡¯ opinions in terms of improvement of disability cognition were surveyed. Employers insisted that what was required was further exploring and publicizing employment cases of the disabled which showed that they perform jobs without any problems, and have productivity on par with those without disabilities.
